Our approach

A comprehensive approach to extreme poverty

Our success in combating extreme poverty is based precisely on a holistic and pioneering model of economic and community development based on access to fundamental rights: the VillageFXB model.
We believe that only a comprehensive approach can address the multiple causes of poverty in a sustainable manner and adequately address the concrete needs of local populations.
Initiated in 1991, it provides a comprehensive three-year response to the root causes of poverty by simultaneously addressing its predominant factors: access to safe housing and environment, food security, education and training, adequate health care and economic empowerment by empowering beneficiaries to start income-generating activities. This support also aims to strengthen the resilience of communities to climate change and their knowledge of health, hygiene and social issues, contributing to their well-being and ensuring sustainable impacts on their quality of life.

Since 1989, FXB is a non-governmental organization that promotes access for the most vulnerable — priority children — to their fundamental rights, fight against extreme poverty and work to adapt to the climate change of local populations.

Our journey

Our Story

1986
Our story begins in 1986 with the death of François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB), a young rescue helicopter pilot.
1989
Albina du Boisrouvray, along with her family and friends, created a Foundation and an NGO named after her only son, FXB.
1990
In 1990, FXB created the first FXB house in Washington.
From 1990
FXB provides substantial support to Dr. James Oleske's research and initiatives, including funding from the FXB Center at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
From 1991
FXB began to intervene in Africa and laid the first foundations of the VillageFXB pioneer model.
1993
Albina du Boisrouvray founded the François-Xavier Bagnoud Centre for Health and Human Rights at Harvard.
For 35 years
FXB devotes its action to the rescue of the poorest, most fragile, and those who are thrown out of the world. 19 million people were impacted by all FXB activities combined.
Chronology from 1989 to 2025

François-Xavier Bagnoud

François-Xavier Bagnoud, son of Albina du Boisrouvray and Bruno Bagnoud, was born in Geneva on 11 September 1961. He grew up in Paris, where he graduated from the American School. By the time he finished high school, he was already a patented and experienced pilot. On January 14, 1986, François-Xavier tragically lost his life on a helicopter mission in the Malian desert. In 1989, his parents, family and friends founded the Fondation and the Association François-Xavier Bagnoud to extend his rescue work and to perpetuate the values of generosity and compassion that guided his life.

Our FXB Climate Advocates program

Young people are at the forefront of social change and, in the context of the current climate crisis, young activists hope that real change is possible. Our Climate Advocates provide young climate activists with knowledge and tools to mobilize climate action at the local, national and international levels.
